Coach of the Week

 

The Atlanta Falcons and Touchdown Club of Atlanta are partnering the 2007 season to recognize outstanding high school football coaches throughout metro Atlanta. 

Sept. 10-14
The Falcons recognized Coach Brian Dameron of Cherokee High School. 

Coach Dameron is in his eighth season as head coach of the Warriors and has been coaching for 20 years. He has guided the Warriors to the quarter finals in 2003 and 2004, and appeared in playoff games in 2001-2004 and in 2006.  He has the most wins in school history with 14 of his players playing college ball. 

Coach Dameron was honored for his team's 10-3 win over Starr’s Mill at the Georgia Dome.


Sept. 17-21
The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to recognize Coach Mickey Conn of Grayson High School as an Atlanta Falcons/Touchdown Club of Atlanta Coach of the Week. Coach Conn received a $1,000 grant for his school’s football program from the NFL’s Youth Football Fund. 

Boasting a 42-28 record at Grayson, Coach Conn led his team to the 2002 8-AAA Regional Championship and a Sweet 16 berth, a playoff spot in 2003 and another Sweet 16 berth during the 2006 season. Coach Conn and his Grayson Rams recently defeated the Peachtree Ridge Lions 17-14.


Sept. 24-28
The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to recognize Coach Kevin Whitley of Creekside High School in Fairburn, Ga. as another Atlanta Falcons/Touchdown Club of Atlanta Coach of the Week. Coach Whitley received a $1,000 grant for his school’s football program from the NFL’s Youth Football Fund. 

This award recognizes Coach Whitley and his Creekside Seminoles' come-from-behind 11-9 victory over Starr's Mill High School on Sept. 14.  With that win, the Seminoles improved to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in Region 2-AAAA.


Oct. 1-5
The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to recognize Coach Franklin Stephens of Tucker High School as the Atlanta Falcons/Touchdown Club of Atlanta Coach of the Week. Coach Stephens received a $1,000 grant for his school’s football program from the NFL’s Youth Football Fund. 

This award recognizes Coach Stephens and his Tucker Tigers 35-0 win over St. Pius X on Sept. 21, 2007.  That win marked Tucker's fourth consecutive shutout.  At the time, the team had outscored opponents 170-0.


Oct. 8-12
The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to recognize Coach Bill Ballard of Peachtree Ridge High School as the Atlanta Falcons/Touchdown Club of Atlanta Coach of the Week. Coach Ballard received a $1,000 grant for his school’s football program from the NFL’s Youth Football Fund. 

This award recognizes Coach Ballard and his unranked Peachtree Ridge Lions 26-14 defeat of top-ranked Norcross High School on Sept. 28, 2007.


Oct. 15-19
The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to recognize Coach Chris Thomas of North Atlanta High School as the Atlanta Falcons/Touchdown Club of Atlanta Coach of the Week. Coach Thomas received a $1,000 grant for his school’s football program from the NFL’s Youth Football Fund. 

This award recognizes Coach Thomas and North Atlanta Warriors’ 32-6 victory over Riverwood High School in his team’s first win of the season on October 5, 2007.  Coach Thomas hopes to improve his team’s record when they take on the winless Druid Hills High School Red Devils Saturday, Oct. 20.


Oct. 22-26
The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to recognize Coach Corey Jarvis of Martin Luther King High School as the Atlanta Falcons/Touchdown Club of Atlanta Coach of the Week. Coach Jarvis received a $1,000 grant for his school’s football program from the NFL’s Youth Football Fund. 

This award recognizes Coach Jarvis and his MLK Lions’ 14-6 win over Stephenson High School, which was a top-ranked and unbeaten program in Class AAAAA until the upset by Coach Jarvis’ MLK program.
