FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons today agreed to terms with four-year veteran cornerback Von Hutchins.

Hutchins was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He spent two seasons in a Colts uniform before joining the Houston Texans in 2006. Hutchins career totals include 142 tackles (112 solo), two interceptions and one interception return for a touchdown.

Last season, Hutchins competed in 16 games for the Texans, starting in 15. He contributed with a career-high 94 tackles (77 solo), one interception, a half sack and six passes defensed. Following his efforts, he was named to USA Today’s 2008 AFC All-Joe team.

Hutchins collared three tackles in 2006 after joining the Texans late in the season.

In 2005 he was on the active roster for the final five games after spending most of the season on Indianapolis’ Physically Unable to Perform list with a foot injury. During his rookie season in 2004, Hutchins competed in all 16 games while recording 40 tackles (29 solo) and a 77-yard interception return for a touchdown against Houston on November 14. The interception was the eighth-longest in Colts history and the fourth-longest ever by a Colts rookie.

A three-year starter at Mississippi, Hutchins finished his collegiate career with 225 tackles (139 solo), 11 interceptions, 18 passes defensed and one fumble recovery. He also started seven games as a free safety and left cornerback as a junior.

Hutchins is a native of Natchez, Miss. and attended Cathedral High School.
