ATLANTA -- Official game notes from the Falcons-Colts preseason contest.
- Following a Colts penalty on the opening play of the game, running back Michael Turner took his first handoff of the contest and rushed 52 yards into Indianapolis territory. Turner’s scamper led to Jason Elam field goal on the Falcons opening offensive possession.
- Turner copied his first break-away run on Atlanta’s second offensive possession of the game with a 63-yard carry into Colts territory. The rush led to Elam’s second field goal of the game and an Atlanta 6-0 lead.
- Turner’s 63-yard rush in the first quarter is the longest preseason run for the Falcons since 2005 when T.J. Duckett scampered 72 yards for a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans on August 19.
- Turner’s 113 rushing yards is the highest total for a Falcons running back in a preseason game in the last decade.
- Elam split the uprights on a 25-yard field goal at the 10:30 mark in first quarter. The field goal was Elam’s first in the Georgia Dome and second of the preseason. The 15-year veteran finished the game having converted all three of his field goal attempts, including a long kick of 40 yards.
- Wide receiver Laurent Robinson led the team in receiving with 48 yards on three receptions, including a 28-yard grab in the third quarter on a pass from quarterback Chris Redman.
- The Falcons defense held the Colts offensive starters scoreless in the opening 15 minutes of play and 3:34 into the second quarter before Indianapolis kicker Adam Vinatieri tacked on a 24-yard field goal, which cut Atlanta’s lead to 6-3.
- Linebacker Curtis Lofton continued his solid play from his first preseason game against Jacksonville when he sacked Colts quarterback Jared Lorenzen in the fourth quarter. Lofton also added two tackles. Against the Jaguars last Saturday, Lofton tied for the team lead in tackles with six while adding one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
- Atlanta defensive end Kroy Biermann who posted one forced fumble and one fumble recovery against Jacksonville last Saturday totaled one sack and added two tackles against the Colts.
- Falcons safety Daren Stone intercepted his first pass in a Falcons uniform at the 6:42 mark in the fourth quarter. The interception came at the Colts five-yard line to stall a scoring drive.
- Atlanta cornerback Blue Adams led the Falcons defense with nine tackles.
- Cornerback Brent Grimes broke up a Colts fourth down pass in the end zone to prevent a Indianapolis touchdown prior to halftime. Grimes also contributed with one tackle.
