FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner earned FedEx Ground Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Detroit Lions in his Falcons debut. Along with the award, FedEx is making a $1,000 donation in Turner’s name to the local Safe Kids USA coalition in Atlanta.
In Atlanta’s regular season opener against the Lions at the Georgia Dome, Turner set a Falcons single-game rushing record with 220 yards on 22 carries (10.0 avg.) in a 34-21 victory. He contributed with two touchdowns, marking his first career multiple-touchdown game and his rushing total is the most in NFL annals by a player in his first game with a new team. Turner was also voted NFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, September 10.
Atlanta will travel to Tampa, Florida to battle the Buccaneers in the first road meeting and NFC South match-up of the season on Sunday, September 14. Game time is set for 4:05 p.m.
