FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Atlanta Falcons today extended the contracts of wide receiver Michael Jenkins and defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux.
“We’re excited and pleased to extend the contracts of Falcons players who have made significant contributions to the overall success of our football team,” said Falcons General Manager Thomas Dimitroff. “Michael and Jonathan are both team guys who work hard on and off the field and are both very productive on Sundays.”
Jenkins, a five-year veteran who was originally selected by the Falcons in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft, was awarded a four-year extension. He has totaled 168 receptions for 2,093 yards and 17 touchdowns in his Falcons career thus far. This season, Jenkins has posted 33 receptions for 498 yards and is on pace to set a career-high in receiving yards for a season (724). The Ohio State graduate has also posted three touchdowns this year, which includes a career-long catch of 62 yards on rookie quarterback Matt Ryan’s first career NFL pass.
“I’m really excited to continue my career here in Atlanta,” said Jenkins. “The team-oriented program is something I want to continue to be a part of.”
Babineaux, a second round selection by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2005 NFL Draft, received a five-year extension. In 56 career games in a Falcons uniform, the Iowa alum has totaled 150 tackles (106 solo), 6.5 sacks for a loss of 43.5 yards, one interception, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and six passes defensed. This season, Babineaux has recorded 23 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery.
