Birds up for performance, community awards

 

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Three Falcons players are up for awards on NFL.com this week after the team's thrilling 13-10, overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fans can also vote for linebacker Keith Brooking, who is up for Home Depot Neighborhood MVP.

Rookie quarterback Matt Ryan is up for Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week for his role in the Falcons victory over the Bucs. Ryan completed 15 of 23 passes for 206 yards in the game. This is the eighth time Ryan has been up for Rookie of the Week honors.

Defensive end John Abraham recorded his third, three-sack game of the season Sunday against the Bucs to bring his total to 15.5 (second in the NFC). Abraham's final sack of the day forced a Buccaneers punt in overtime that led to Jason Elam's game-winning kick. He's up for GMC Defensive Player of the Week.

Running back Michael Turner carried the Falcons offense Sunday afternoon, carrying the ball 32 times for 152 yards and a touchdown. He's now the Falcons single-season record holder for rushing touchdowns (15) and is up for FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

Brooking is up for Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP. A former Falcons Man of the Year, Brooking works in the community year round through The Keith Brooking Children's Foundation. The foundation has awarded more than $300,000 in grants since February 2004.
