FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons today signed free agent linebacker Jamie Winborn and waived linebacker Rashad Bobino.
Winborn, 5-11, 230 pounds, is entering his ninth season in the NFL, competing primarily with the San Francisco 49ers from 2001-04. In 92 career games (32 starts), he has logged 407 tackles (105 solo), 10.0 sacks, three interceptions, 23 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He competed with the Denver Broncos for the past two seasons (2007-08) and last year saw action in all 16 games while contributing with 117 tackles (84 solo) and nine passes defensed.
An accomplished special-teamer, Winborn has also posted 46 career tackles covering kicks. In 2007 he led the Denver Broncos with 11 special teams stops. In 2004, Winborn tallied his best statistical season with the 49ers. He ranked third on the team with 104 tackles, a career-high 4.5 sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. For his efforts, he was nominated by his teammates for the Ed Block Courage Award after returning from an injury he suffered the previous season.
Bobino was originally signed by the Falcons as a rookie free agent from the University of Texas on May 13, 2009.
The Falcons open the 2009 training camp with two practices today at the team’s Flowery Branch headquarters. The morning session starts at 8:30 a.m. while the afternoon practice kicks off at 3:45 a.m. Both practices are open to the public.
