The Falcons announced the release of 13 players Saturday afternoon. The active roster is now at 53 players, the league mandate for the start of the 2009 regular season.
A host of Falcons grew up or played college football in the state of Georgia, meaning they didn't have to travel far to continue their football career as members of the NFL.
The addition of Tony Gonzalez at tight end was a key offseason move. But, outside of adding youth at wide receiver, it's one of the only changes at the positions as the team readies for Russell Falcons Training Camp.
The Falcons added 10 rookie free agents and made additional roster moves on Tuesday.
