Originally selected as a third round (98th pick overall) draft choice by the Atlanta Falcons in 2008.
Career
DeCoud (pronounced Day-Cooh) started 45 games during his career at California and recorded 198 tackles (115 solo), one sack, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also intercepted one pass, broke-up seven passes and blocked six kicks.
As a versatile defender, he has the ability to play cornerback and is known for his special teams skills as well.
2007 Season
Named an All-Pac 10 honorable mention selection while serving as the team’s defensive captain.
Started 12 games at the safety position and led the team with a career-high 116 tackles (71 solo), which also ranked fourth in the league.
Collared at least 10 tackles in six different contests.
Led a defensive unit that ranked second in the Pac-10 in pass defense (214.3 ypg).
Named Pac-10 Player of the Week against Arizona (9/22) after collecting 10 tackles, a 12-yard sack that caused a fumble and his first career interception.
Closed out his career with 10 tackles (nine solo) and one tackle for loss against Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl (12/31).
2006 Season
Named the team’s Most Improved Player after finishing with 45 tackles (20 solo) including one tackle for loss and three passes defensed.
Opened the season with 13 tackles against Tennessee (9/2).
Blocked a kick against UCLA (11/4), which was returned by DeSean Jackson for a 72-yard touchdown.
Tallied six tackles (four solo) and one tackle for loss against Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl (12/28).
2005 Season
Appeared in 11 games and registered 28 tackles (18 solo) and one tackle for loss.
Led the team with three blocked kicks.
Collared a team-high 10 tackles against New Mexico State (9/23).
2004 Season
Was a reserve cornerback seeing action in 10 games while totaling nine tackles, one fumble recovery and three blocked kicks.
Blocked an extra point attempt which was returned for a defensive PAT against Southern Mississippi.
2003 Season
Redshirted as a freshman.
Personal
Attended Pinole Valley High School (California) and earned first-team All-Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League accolades during a brilliant senior season in which he recorded 80 tackles, and two interceptions.
Caught 23 passes for 600 yards at the wide receiver position.
As a junior, DeCoud was awarded All-ACCAL honors in both football and basketball.
